When the President actually doesn't know what he is talking about

Yesterday President Donald Trump said:

1) "We need quick justice and we need strong justice -- much quicker and much stronger than we have right now. Because what we have right now is a joke and it's a laughingstock. And no wonder so much of this stuff takes place."

2) "We also have to come up with punishment that's far quicker and far greater than the punishment these animals are getting right now. They'll go through court for years. And at the end, they'll be -- who knows what happens."

What is the contradiction? Can you find it?

And then, there is this: The evidence.

  1. This clearly shows that the President himself has absolutely no clue what he is talking about. He demands a faster process and says that these individuals will "go through courts for years" when studies show that majority of the people who commit these attacks are not caught alive, and the ones that are caught alive are dealt with swiftly and promptly while still making sure they are given due process. Since 9/11/2001 to the end of 2015, the Justice Department has reported 627 public terrorism or terrorism related convictions. That right there is a lot! Majority of those cases had convictions within two years after the indictments were issued, and when you are accusing someone of something as big as terrorism and as serious of a punishment as life in prison or death penalty, then you best be sure that it is in fact them who committed the crime and make sure that all options and situations have been fully analyzed before. This is not a process that should be rushed.

  2. I don't know if he necessary contradicts himself as much as he has no idea what he is talking about. I think that our president trump has just decided to be the right wing extremist that he ran on. He doesn't know what he is saying but he knows that its republican and if crime control is republican than you'll bet he's on board with it, even if it doesn't make sense regarding the system and networks that we have today.

  3. It goes to show that President Trump does not have a clue on how the justice system works. The system works to make sure that people are either found guilty or innocent of their actions, and that takes time. How can he say we need quick justice and strong justice, but then go on to say that they will go through the court for years and not know where they will end up? He really has no idea what he is talking about, and if it were up to him I’m sure he would just throw everyone in jail with a random punishment he makes up in his head. In reality, he just thinks our current system is a joke compared to other countries, and wants to make the United States look all tough to intimidate his enemies.

  4. Besides showing his complete lack of understanding of law enforcement, his comments further demonstrate his disrespect of the rule of law. He wants "quick" and "strong" justice for "animals", but not for Michael Flynn (who he believes is being subjected to a witch-hunt) or Joe Arpaio (who he pardoned, despite not receiving any actual punishment for his multiple crimes). The "law and order candidate" is only interested in the concept for his perceived enemies.

  5. While he is correct in saying that quick punishment is needed, he is still missing out on the main idea. For punishment to really be a deterrent, there has to be certainty that there will in fact be any punishment at all.
