Mississippi license plate proposed to honor KKK leader

Imagine a licence plate on your car that honors a KKK leader? Like this guy to the left.

That's what some in Mississippi are trying to bring about.

Let's keep in mind these are the same folks who have a state university with a mascot that is the "Rebels" and that still flies the "bars and stars" (like the rebel flag to the left) at sporting events.

Yes, it is their history. Yes, it is their culture. I get that.

But it is also offensive to a great number of people.

And the license plate obviously goes too far.

It's even worse than those stupid bumber stickers saying "The South will rise again."

What exactly does that mean, anyway? And how will we know when that happens?

When slaves are working in the fields again?

I think when Texas finally secedes from the nation, they should take Mississippi with them.

  1. I understand that this is the South and citizens still show their confederate flag in their yard (etc), but a license plate takes it too far. This is my opinion of course. To have a license plated that advertises the man that began the KKK baffles me. I agree with the comment: "The state of Mississippi should deny any vanity tags which would highlight racial hatred in this state." I just wish people, such as the ones proposing this idea, would step out of their "small box" and realize there are good people of different races/ethnic background in America. If this got passed, I feel other states would be in disgust of their insensitive action.

  2. This is very interesting to me but not very surprising. I have never been to the great state of Mississippi, but from what I understand racism is alive and well there and has been for some time. Incorporating the "Stars and Bars" on their state flag is one thing, but putting the originator of the KKK on license plates is way over the top. Those who look at other people differently because of the color of their skin are among the most ingnorant people in the world. I enjoyed the last sentence of this post the most.

  4. I'm surprised that people in Mississippi are trying to do this. I believe that the University of Mississippi has been stripping away images of the Old South. This is why they have changed their mascot from Colonel Rebel to Rebel Black Bear. Of course this change did have opposition, but, the university obviously recognizes the need for change.

There are so many people who are from Mississippi and they decide to use this KKK leader. They need to look more into their culture and figure out who is deserving.

Following the KKK is probably one of the reasons why the government uses the US PATRIOT Act on U.S. citizens.
