Next state to abolish the death penalty?

After discovering that the state makes more mistakes with wrongful convictions than it carries out executions, a moratorium on executions, and years of careful study including a government appointed commission, the state of Illinois seems to be on the verge of finally abolishing the death penalty.

By no means is this a done deal. But it is a start.
